A beautiful story from Naples, Florida, shows how strong sibling love can be—even among kittens. This is the touching story of three orphaned babies who had no one but each other, and how their bond helped one little kitten heal.
Megan Sorbara, president of Purradise Gardens, was simply out to get some ice cream when a call changed everything. Someone had reported abandoned kittens near a nearby building. Without hesitation, Megan changed course and rushed to help.
What she saw next moved her to the core. Lying together in a tiny pile on the ground were three kittens. Two were tabbies, and the third was a fragile white kitten. The two tabbies had wrapped themselves around their sister, who was shaking and barely able to move. Megan later shared:
“They were just in a little clump on the ground.”
It was clear they were trying to keep their sister warm and safe, sensing that she wasn’t well. Their mother was nowhere in sight, likely gone for good. So Megan gently lifted the trio into her arms and brought them to the shelter for urgent care.
At the shelter, Megan gave them sweet names inspired by her ice cream craving: the tabbies became Pistachio and Praline, and the delicate white kitten was named Coconut. The names were fitting, and their story was just beginning.
Once checked by staff, it was clear that Coconut’s siblings had every reason to be worried. Her head tilted strangely, and she couldn’t walk properly. Megan feared a neurological issue but had to wait for a vet’s confirmation.
While they waited, Megan did her best to help. She gently massaged Coconut’s little body, hoping to improve her strength. But Coconut wasn’t alone. Pistachio and Praline never left her side. They constantly curled around her, cuddled her, and comforted her. Their love gave Coconut warmth—and hope.
But that wasn’t all. Coconut found another surprising friend: Megan’s dog, Bitsy.
Bitsy wasn’t like other dogs. She had a soft spot for cats and loved being part of rescue missions. Megan said:
“Bitsy comes out on all our trapping missions. She loves it when we get kittens. She is a kitten freak.”
When Bitsy met Coconut, the connection was instant. She gently lay beside the tiny kitten, playing and cuddling with her. These moments were more than cute—they were healing. Megan noted:
“It helps her stretch and move and climb and things like that, which are good for her muscles.”
Meanwhile, rescuers kept searching for the kittens’ mom. They’d occasionally spot her, but she was too scared to be caught. Eventually, though, they earned her trust and brought her safely to the shelter. Megan named her Vanilla Bean.
The reunion was magical. Vanilla Bean seemed relieved to see her babies safe and healthy. That moment sparked something in Coconut, too. Surrounded by love from her siblings, a sweet dog, and now her mama, Coconut began to recover fully.
When the kittens were old enough, Megan decided to adopt them all herself. She wanted to keep the family together—in a home filled with care, play, and comfort. Bitsy, of course, was overjoyed to have her favorite kittens living under the same roof.
